It's that time of the year when I get excited about baking for the holiday. I have my favorite recipes that I bake every year. Thanks to my grandmother I tend to get adventurous and try out new recipes.
Poor Santa, sometimes the new recipes work out and sometimes like last year I made a batch of white chocolate candy cane cookies; I would have made the naughty list if I had put them out for him!!
My grandmother who loved to bake and was patient enough to teach me a few things about baking. Christmas was her favorite time of the year to go all out on her seasonal recipes.
One thing my grandmother did not like was to get her hands messy with cookie dough. I would have a belly full of laughs when I would ask her would she like to help roll the cookies. She would say “No Lee that is why you are here.” I didn’t mind getting my hands cookie dough messy because I got to spend time with her.
I was very lucky because my oldest daughter got to transcend generations and bake with my grandmother; her great-grandmother; how great was that.
The time my daughter got to bake with her great-grandmother is the reason she loves to bake. My daughter lives the baking spirit of her Great Grandmother and is not afraid to try new recipes when she bakes.
And even though my Grandmother is no longer with us my oldest daughter passed on her baking skills to her younger sister. How special it is to have daughters capture a love of baking and share with me baking festive moments.
Merry Christmas Grandma.
